Some evenings stay etched in our memories. On Saturday 13 December 2025, the Camille-Descossy gallery in Rodès was packed, with more than 110 people coming to celebrate John Goudie Lynch, the Scottish painter who has called this small village in the Pyrénées-Orientales home for more than fifty years. The main gallery was so full that the crowd spilled out into the street. A telling sign.

A rare retrospective

Having become more private in recent years, John Goudie Lynch agreed to this exceptional event: a retrospective of his life and work, followed by an emotional opening. The Mayor of Rodès, Marc Bianchini, came to recall the memories he shared with the painter.

Nostalgia was felt in everyone’s hearts.

L’Envol, a gift to the village

That evening, John Goudie Lynch donated one of his paintings, L’Envol, to the village. The work depicts a father helping his child take flight and forge their own path through life. His son Mattias, by his side, expressed his pride in his father’s artistic journey.

A film, and tears

Before the opening, a film tracing John Goudie Lynch’s life and work was shown. Prepared by his wife, Trudy, and graphic designer Paola Da Silva, it moved the entire audience to tears, touching on something deeply universal in the life of this man.
